Mount Doom
My previous post ended way to Taupo. There was a girl so hard the mountain and I offered her a ride. Bike in the trunk and let's go! She was en route to Taupo so it was good. I told her I move Mount Doom from Lord of the Rings and wanted to climb my enthusiasm was apparently quite contagious. So we Taupo but beaten and we drove to the Tongariro Crossing. This is a tough hike of about six to eight hours where you go through between two volcanoes. One of the most beautiful hikes that New Zealand has. This hike was I already do with Ryan but when the weather was really bad. And just did not seem like a good plan, so this came out okay.
We planned to start early so we could take the time. We were half frozen and woke up that morning I was once the car to get some warm clothes from the trunk to grab. This proved quite difficult to open because it was frozen. Anyway, when we had drawn some warm clothes, we began our journey. The way we came to some signs like "Stop, Are you really prepared to continue your Alpine Crossing trek?" And "Seriously Consider turning back". This says something about how hard the journey was
.
After several hours we were at the foot of a huge volcano. Mount Doom from Lord of the Rings. I knew it was possible to climb it and of course I wanted to do! Stine (the lifter) was not sure she could handle it but wanted to try. Back is always, of course. It was actually a really nice day, but was warned of 'Alpine conditions. This means that the weather can change in no time and this is what we have noticed. The mountain was a very steep slope with only loose stones and snow. Also, it was suddenly very foggy so we had no idea how far we were and how far we still had to go. And it was also denied by climbing the stone rolled away again among us. Or a great challenge!
After two and half hour climb on top of hill, I finally (Stine has also been pretty far). At the top of the mountain I was on 273 meters above freezing. And with a huge hard wind was certainly not warm up. But the summit was reached and that was it for me
. When I decided to go down quickly. Back at Stine shocked them a bit because there are literally hanging ice on my ears. "We have to get you down". haha
The return trip was really great fun. It was more than skiing walking really happy because all the stones rolled away beneath me. OK, for me it was skiing, Stine for more trial and error
. With twenty minutes we were back on the path and assigns follow us on the hike. The rest of the hike was quite a little tough but we have nice things.
At the end of the track, we hitchhiked back to my car. Her bike was stolen, so she went back with me further. In recent days we drove further southwards. Now we sit with David in his apartment in Wellington tomorrow morning and I take the ferry to the South Island.
On to the next adventure and greetings from New Zealand!
Tim
Owja, I am now more and more filming so I do not have to type everything
. So here it is just a video of the hike.
I apologize for my clothes in the beginning, we had the heater on full and I was just putting my thermopak on my camera when I saw lying.
A word afterwards to get any reckless reputation. It was certainly a challenge and very difficult and adventurous, but we have not compromised ourselves. It sounds more dangerous than it was
.
