Heaphy Track

Hi everyone!

With this the promised report about my weekend. I have very few pictures taken so I'll just tell a story a day. The people in a hurry can better immediately scroll to the end ;) .

Day 1

As mentioned in my previous post, I came quite spontaneously the idea for a weekend to pull out. So gezegt done so, and at night around 1 o'clock I left the Heaphy Track. The trip was quite a sight to experience. It was a full moon, the mountains were all the water turned pitch black and silver. If we had been some teenagers would be a nice start of a bad horror movie. After several hours the eyes were tired and I parked the car for a nap. The next morning I woke up the sun in my face and it was time to get some petrol in the car to throw. So just what cars long run if someone accidentally jumper cables had and then I continued my way. At the last village on the road we stopped for some last minute shopping. Then I drive out of town and I get a police car with flashing lights behind me. When this also put the siren on, I finally decided to stop by the side to stop. I was a little too much haste to have some me back about $ 190, - cost. After the last village Unfortunately it proved to be an enormous distance. So even halfway through a break in a cave system (Middle Earth for LOTR fans). There was just a tour so that just as quickly meegepakt.

Eventually came around 14h, I was almost at the beginning of the trip. I had a few rivers by car which fortunately went well. When the trip could finally begin. The rain came pouring down now with the air so it was an immediate fresh start. In the first hut we stopped for a snack. I ran against four people who ride just behind them (without a drop ;) ). These nice people I have given my car keys so that I will soon own less need to travel to the car. This would leave them in a village near the Tourist Office.

The first day I had 17.5 km non-stop mountain walk on. This appeared to be taking longer than expected because when I thought I was finally there was a sign cabin 5 km 8-O I knew it would be dark around 20:30 so I had an hour to get there. Briskly walked and finally after the last mile in the darkening forest anyway I finally came to the hut. I was happy not alone in the forest because the cabin had seven 50 + ers present and a girl of 21. Just nice and warmed up and then chatted to bed on time.

Day 2

The day started early so I'm only at 7 am up to walking. After two hours I had my first break and I was overtaken by the first group. This consisted of two paramedics, a nurse and the maid. Well, more secure, you can not step on you might say. So I have some time with their overflowing. Unfortunately, they went a little too fast so the last few hours I walked back to myself. The slightly wet-to-small shoes, I had huge blisters on my feet. Something running did not help. So certainly the last hours to the hut were very heavy. I started a bit wondering where the hell I started.

It also has approximately the half of the day rained. But luckily had a poncho with me :) . The best 50 cents I ever spent! Evening enjoy a cold can of spaghetti inside worked. The rest was extended to a boil. A three course menu with steak if I'm not mistaken. But the rest day was quite jealous of my little backpack haha.

Day 3

The third day was by far the best. Someone had given me two wonderful patches against blisters given. And that was certainly a good start to the day. All day my feet had no problems. The day started dry and I left with the four 50 + ers (more my speed ;) ). Once we were well and truly on the road the rain came. This time harder than the previous days so it was not long before I was wet through and through. We also came flooding some way that you could not cross with dry feet. The rain had that day become a kind of barometer for my mood. The harder the rain the more happier Tim. Natter could not so I could enjoy stomping through the puddles everywhere through the rainforest. Where it is different for a rainforest? Unfortunately, very few pictures can be cut because unfortunately my camera is not waterproof. Once we arrived at the last hut was dry spontaneously. It seriously wrong with 10 minutes I think. The advantage is that night we were out to enjoy the sunset (if you stunned yourself in the anti-bug spray because the choking of the "sandflies").

Day 4

The next day started very early. I was at 6:45 to walk again after I did well in the wet shoes squeezed. The reason for my early start was that I still had my car all the way back lifts. It was a very scenic route that day. The ocean came into view and we did go to some beaches. We also had a decent number of suspension bridges to cross the rivers come, all ended in the ocean. How such a spectacular sight freshwater river is swirling in the salty ocean dumping. In Europe there were definitely some of the resorts are being built at such places ;) .

The early start proved very fruitful and we were for the afternoon at the final destination. In recent days I had a walk of 80 kilometers in but oddly enough it was 450 km by car. One of the guys suggested that I could do it with their shuttle. This seemed strong because they have been paying but nothing ventured ... The driver said it was "against policy" was to bring people for nothing. Perfectly understandable of course but he was willing to put me in the next village to sell. So from there began the real work lift. The first couple took me set me off on the highway a few kilometers away. Along the way they offered me some marijuana : P . On the highway I was picked up by the same shuttle. They had their break down on it and the driver was nice enough to bring me back. This was a nice end in the direction and two cars later I was in the village agreed at the Tourist Office. No car.

Hmmm. Eventually he found a few blocks away to stand with the key at the appointed place. Whew! It was now 6 o'clock and I still had 550 kilometers to go. This was a little too crazy to even within those four days to do so but I will stay in the backpackers in the village.

Day 5

This day was all about the retreat. Because I had all day in the direction I wanted to drive home. So through all the mountains around. On the map, I thought a nice way to have found. It went very well until the long wrong. I was already quite a while on a dirt road aan't drive when I finally came out at a road (do not ask me why they do not do at the beginning vd way). So I could drive all the way back to the beginning and from there still on the highway to drive home. So I get the time to do.

Furthermore, the trip went pretty smoothly and I decided to spoil myself that day. A ranger from the forest had alerted me to a spa that was not as commercial as the rest. So there I just enjoy gebadderd. Commercial was not the right word because I was the only one in the complex. When I was uitgebadderd I have even treated to a body massage + foot an hour and then continued to drive to Christchurch. Along the way, I found that my car had fairly little grip at the back but I will not bore too much attention to it.

Then at night I still just wanted to go towards the supermarket, I saw that my rear tire was kapoet. Completely worn out. No idea when that happened or how long that was already : Roll: . So next week just looking for new rear tires.

And further

In the absence of pictures, it has become quite a long report. Undoubtedly, I still forget to mention everything so but that will take care of. And for a change this time I also filmed some footage for a bit to have ;) .

And for those who have time or are bored, there is a movie ;) . Lasts' n quarter.
